This is one of Italy’s most fascinating hiking trails and is ideal for those seeking an authentic experience amid mountains, historic villages, and breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore — just 30 minutes from Lake Orta.

Enjoy a slow-paced experience in the heart of Piedmont.
The Lake Maggiore Trail is a new offering for trekking enthusiasts, nature lovers and those who appreciate unspoilt landscapes. This circular route consists of 11 stages passing through spectacular scenery and linking the lakeshore with the green hills surrounding it in the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy.
The trail can be tackled clockwise or anti-clockwise, and is flexible enough to allow you to walk the entire route or just a few stages, depending on your time and level of fitness.
Immerse yourself in nature, history and picture-postcard views.
Far from traffic and noise, the route winds its way along the mountain slopes, guaranteeing cooler temperatures and direct contact with the most authentic nature of the lake. Each stage offers the opportunity to explore picturesque villages, scenic trails and places steeped in charm and history.

The Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, located on the tenth stage (Laveno-Ranco, clockwise), is undoubtedly one of the most evocative points along the entire route. This unique site is the only cultural asset on Lake Maggiore open all year round and is a must-visit for spiritual and cultural enthusiasts.
At certain times of the year, guided tours are available, offering visitors the chance to discover the Hermitage’s historical heritage and profound spiritual significance. This is a precious opportunity to connect with both nature and the inner dimension of the journey.
